Learn to Skate Coaches
A Learn-to-Skate coach is an instructor who teaches the foundational skills of ice skating to beginners of all ages. They guide skaters through proper technique, balance, and safety while building confidence on the ice. Through structured lessons, demonstrations, and supportive feedback, they help skaters progress from basic movements to more advanced elements, fostering both skill development and a love for the sport. *Indicates Club Coach and LTS Instructor Status*
Kelly Bonnar was a member of the Nepean Figure Skating Club and competed at the Novice level until she began skating professionally with the Ice Capades. After touring with them, she went to college and earned the All Ontario Women’s Intercollegiate Athlete Award as a figure skater for the University of Guelph Gryphons. Kelly retired from skating and went on to complete a PhD in Public Health and is currently a Professor at SUNY Potsdam. In her free time, she enjoys being back on the ice as a Learn to Skate coach and is certified to offer private lessons.
Rylee Cooper is a senior undergraduate student at Clarkson University, majoring in Biology on the Pre-Physician Assistant's tract. Rylee began skating in 2013 and quickly discovered her passion for the sport. Throughout her skating career, she tested and competed individually and was a proud member of several synchronized skating teams, including the Shooting Stars, Ice Angels, Saint Sensations, and Rainbow Connection.
Since 2022, Rylee has been part of the coaching team, teaching Learn to Skate classes and helping skaters build strong fundamentals, confidence, and joy on the ice. She is also certified to offer private lessons for skaters looking to grow their skills further. In addition to her private coaching, Rylee serves as an assistant synchronized skating coach, where she brings her enthusiasm for teamwork and dedication to helping every skater reach their potential.

Club Coaches
A club coach is a private skating instructor who works one-on-one with skaters to develop personalized training plans that match their individual goals. They provide focused instruction, technique refinement, choreography, and performance preparation, helping skaters advance at their own pace and reach competitive or recreational milestones with tailored guidance and support.
Coach Danielle Bartow-Grant is a passionate and dedicated figure skating professional with a strong commitment to helping skaters reach their full potential both on and off the ice. With 40 years of coaching experience, she has worked with skaters of all ages and levels—from beginners taking their first glide to competitive athletes perfecting advanced jumps and spins while competing throughout the nation.
Danielle believes in creating a positive, supportive training environment where each skater feels confident to challenge themselves and grow. She emphasizes strong fundamentals skills, goal setting, and fun as the foundation for success in figure skating.
As a former competitive athlete, Danielle brings firsthand experience and a deep understanding of the technical and artistic demands of the sport. She strives to inspire every student to develop a lifelong love for skating and pride in their progress, no matter their path.

Russell is delighted to coach at Binghamton Skating Club for the 2025/26 season. He has over 30 years of experience in ice dance instruction with skating clubs in the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany areas. He has coached all levels of ice dancing, from beginning skaters through international testers, and has taught and partnered over 50 skaters to their Gold Dance medals. In addition, several of his ice dance teams competed at the U.S. National Figure Skating Championships in the Juvenile, Intermediate and Novice levels. He has worked with a number of coaches in the advancement of their testing credentials and is proud of the fact that many of his former students are now coaching the sport.
During his skating career, Russell competed nationally and internationally. He twice became British Junior National Ice Dance Champion, earned 6th place at the British Senior National Championships and 4th place at the Junior World Championships. He also competed in Canada, China, France, Germany and Switzerland.
Russell earned his bachelor’s degree in business in Nottingham, England and is a practicing CPA in Syracuse. He lives with his wife Heidi and two children in Fayetteville.
